CSA Garden Intern

Site:  Harvest Farm                                       Supervisor:  Garden Supervisor

Hours/Week: 8-40

Job Description: Gain experience running a CSA and year round garden including orchards and greenhouses.  You will be working with men in recovery doing all facets of a CSA.

Internship Objectives: 

q  Become acquainted with and build healthy relationships with Harvest Farm participants and staff.

q  Learn how to run a CSA

q  Gain experience working with livestock.

q  Develop skills in organic dry land farming.

q  Learn to utilize greenhouses and hoop-houses.

q  Be able to manage work crews and volunteers.

q  Gain experience planning and maintaining an orchard.

Internship Activities:

·        Attend daily all-farm devotions

·        Meet weekly with supervisor

·        Meet daily with work crew

·        Help to run all aspects of a CSA including:

Planning, watering and maintaining crop

Putting together weekly shares of produce

Corresponding with CSA members

·         Help to supervise farm workers and volunteers

·        Help with orchard planning, planting, pruning and harvesting

·        Practice organic pest and weed management

·        Maintain soil health through composting, mulching and other soil building practices.

·        Compost all organic matter possible for use on the Farm   

·        Work in greenhouse starting annuals and developing nursery stock

·        Integrate livestock including: pigs, chickens, cows, sheep and goats into the land management plan

·        Adhere to Good Agricultural Practices
